Stardew Valley: Open an Existing PC Farm to Friends

Each additional player needs a cabin, and the save must be opened through Co-op. The host owns the save and must be online for shared sessions.

Cabin Per Additional Player; Co-op → Host; Load Existing Farm; Host Stays Online

You can open an existing single-player Stardew Valley farm for co-op on PC without starting a new map. The owner of the existing save becomes the host. Other players receive their own farmhand characters through cabins on the same farm.

Build Cabins and Start the Farm

  1. Load the farm normally and have Robin build a cabin for each new player. PC supports up to seven cabins for eight players in total.
  2. Save and return to the title screen.
  3. Open the same save through Co-op and the Host tab, rather than the regular Load menu.
  4. Your Steam friends can find the farm in the Join tab. Alternatively, send a Steam invitation from the multiplayer options or share the invite code shown there.

The PC versions on Windows, macOS and Linux can play together. This does not establish a connection to a regular PlayStation or Xbox save. Other platforms’ limits also should not be transferred directly to PC.

Who Owns the Progress?

The host stores the world on their system. Farmhands cannot play that world independently while the farm is closed to other players or the host is offline. The host can still load and develop the same save alone.

A cabin is more than a decorative building. Demolishing it removes its associated farmhand character; that character’s inventory items are placed in a chest. Do not use demolition as your first attempt to fix an invitation problem.

If a friend cannot find the farm, first check that it was started through Co-op, that a cabin is available and that the invitation comes from the active session. Opening router ports indiscriminately is not the first necessary step for an existing Steam farm.
