Stardew Valley: Upgrade Your Watering Can for Outdoor Crops

Use the next day’s rain to time your watering can upgrade and keep outdoor crops watered. Plan Clint’s opening hours and your collection day.

Give Clint your watering can on a day when the forecast predicts rain tomorrow. Rain then covers outdoor crops while the upgrade is underway. You also need to be able to collect the finished can two days after handing it over.

Plan the Upgrade

  1. Watch the weather report on your television.
  2. Water all outdoor crops before handing over the can.
  3. Bring gold and the required bars. Tool upgrades must be completed in order.
  4. Visit the Blacksmith during opening hours, normally 9am to 4pm.
  5. Rain waters outdoor crops the next day. The upgrade takes two nights: hand it over on the 10th and it is ready on the 12th.

Check the Collection Day

After you restore the Community Center, Clint is absent from his shop on Fridays. A tool handed over on Wednesday therefore cannot be collected until Saturday. A festival that closes the shop can also delay collection. Check this before handing over your can.

Indoor Plants Still Need Water

Rain does not reach greenhouse crops or indoor Garden Pots. If those plants depend on your watering can, postpone the upgrade until you can keep them watered without it.
